Health Literacy Transplant Education Manager
Bridgette Sims
RN
As Health Literacy Transplant Education Manager, Bridgette works with our partners in the renal community to support patients in their healthcare journey and assist them in making informed choices about dialysis, transplant, and living donation options.
Bridgette is a Registered Nurse with over 30 years of experience in healthcare. She believes that patients can experience their best quality of life with effective education and strong provider support in place. Her career focus has been in programs that provide people with the knowledge and skills to help them live longer, healthier lives — both as a teacher and
a manager.
She also believes that education and training for providers is an important part of empowering patients, and has extensive experience in programs that reach both groups. As a hemodialysis nurse, Bridgette taught renal patients how to manage their health and helped create training manuals to educate staff nurses and technicians on safe dialysis treatment procedures. As a diabetes clinician and certified educator, Bridgette provided health coaching to patients with diabetes while facilitating education programs for clinical staff on diabetes care guidelines and ways to teach their patients self-management skills. At Washington University, Bridgette worked with researchers to study ways to clinically and socially support HIV-positive women, and presented these findings to other providers.
Bridgette is committed to being a resource and advocate for organizations that desire improved health outcomes for the patients and clients they serve.
Bridgette received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the Saint Louis University School of Nursing, and currently serves as a member of the Horizon Housing Foundation Board of Directors.
