James
James is a 67-year-old male with ESRD. He has been on hemodialysis for 5 years. He lives with his wife. Initially, he had a hard time adjusting to dialysis. Now he is managing his health condition well and he sees his health care providers regularly. He retired from his job last year and looks forward to spending more time with his grandchildren. You ask him if he has ever thought about pursuing transplant. He says no one he knows has had one. He states he is doing well on dialysis and doesn’t see the need to go through the hassle.
