Sarah believes that health literacy empowers people to be an advocate for their own health and the health of their loved ones. It's this passion that drives her everyday work. At HLM, Sarah writes and edits complex health information using HLM’s plain language strategies.
Before coming to HLM Sarah worked closely with local public health departments, using her skills to develop educational content and communication strategies for their programs, which included leading COVID-19 pandemic communication. She also led a multi-county child safety coalition where she organized efforts to provide educational community events on topics such as car seats, bike safety, medication safety, and more. Before this, Sarah was a group recreation facilitator for kids with visual impairments — experience that helps to frame her views on accessibility and inclusion.
Sarah holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Science from Truman State University and is a Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES).
